[jitter] val for jit.op ?

I am trying to understand a jitter patch. There is a message send to jit.op as "val 1 $1 $2 $3". What does these four numbers represent ?

I read the jitter reference, but does not quite understand it.

Could anyone explain it a little bit more ?
