[maxmsp] $0 question

I have created an abstraction using [s $0-send_name] and [r $0-receive_name] arguements in order to be able to create multiple instances of the abstraction without conflicting names in the send and receive objects but it appears that this occurs just the same. Does max not give each instance of $0 a unique value in abstractions or do I have condition myself out of this PD way of thinking?

I did a quick search a la "Find $0 enter" in the documentation and tutorial pdf's and nothing was found.
