[maxmsp] Max and MSP question

Relatively new here and starting reading the MSP tutorials 18-21 (not
finished yet).  These cover mapping Midi to MSP. I have to say they are a
bit intimidating at first glance, no doubt re-reads and working through will
help.  However I'm curious to know if there are some externals out there
that cover the mapping in an easier way, aka a module (reaktor speak).
Perhaps tap.tools or something user contributed ? I've done some looking
around but haven't seen anything yet and would prefer more experienced
opinions.
