just because the immediate uses of an interface seem limited, it's not the case that widespread interest in that interface is 'insulting' or 'fucking stupid.' remember that there have been a lot of incidences of new technology or schools of thought in music whose ramifications were not immediately apparent. they threw tomatoes at 'rite of spring'. jazz was not recognized as a legitimate art form by lincoln center until the 70s. dylan, elvis and the beatles were mocked. gameboy music was as well, and that's continuing as a genre. lo-fi rock and beats as well. serialism. laptop musicianship in general. turntablism would be worthy of the insults hurled at it if it were the only control and people were touting it as such. but it's another widget to add to the modern musician's arsenal. do not mock instruments because their usage seems simplistic. orchestral music still includes scores for triangles. the jew's harp has been used to great effect. i maintain that arrogant statement such as yours are far more damaging - and risible after the fact! - than the efforts of those people who keep an eye out for new expressive interfaces.
