[maxmsp] MaxMSP slowly disappears !!!

"Max/MSP" could itself be the problem - do you, by any chance have a folder
called that, or something similar in the file path ?
 OS X doesn't care for '/' s in file names; if you search the archives,
you'll find this has cropped up a few times, and at least some of what you
describe (File prefs, DSP Status etc. greyed out) are the result,
