[smooth-biquad~] needs more CPU when its signal input is 0! This happens on intel, Max4 under OSX4 and OSX5. On a G5, the CPU% difference is much much smaller. Check the files I sent. On my MacBook Pro, the cpu% usage is between 1 and 6 when the groove is playing. When the groove is stopped, the cpu% rises up to 50% (but 4% on a G5, which is also more than while the groove is playing). Stopping/restarting the [dac~], or resetting the [smooth-biquad~] will reduce the CPU usage to a more normal value (around 4%). The regular [biquad~] doesn't share this weird behavior, so I guess this is something for the cnmat. As people here seem to be more concerned by Max5 things than anything else, the same problem occurs with Max5, although with different cpu%.
