[pluggo] serialin object in pluggo?

Is there a way I can access the serial port of a PC from a Pluggo vst?

I am assuming the max serial object would not work due to limitations of the VST standard or am I wrong?

If it matters, Ableton live will be hosting the VST, maybe it is just easier if I run a separate max patch instead?
