Protools can't use VST plugins w/o 3rd party help. There's a "converter" by FXpansion, but it need PT 7 or higher.

Rewire is probably installed and basically ready to use w/o you even knowing it (unless PT 6.x didn't have rewire, I can't remember), it's kind of an invisible connection between your PT master, and whatever rewired app slave.
