Cycling '74 Software Authorization

HOLIDAY

Cycling '74 will be closed Friday the 3rd. Processing of orders, authorizations, and support cases will be delayed.

This is where you start, if you want to authorize your Cycling '74 software. It is highly recommended that you read the Authorization Instructions.

Attention Max 5 Customers: You are no longer required to submit a "Challenge" for authorization. Please read the short Authorization Instructions before authorizing.

Attention IE7 Users: The Challenge/Response form is currently known to not work with IE7, so in the meantime please use Firefox until we can figure out how to debug and fix this issue.

If you have not purchased the software, please do so first at our online store. After you receive your serial number, return to this page to authorize.

Max 3.6 or MSP 1.7

How to Obtain a Challenge/Response Authorization (OS 9)

Before proceeding, it is strongly recommended that you upgrade to the current version 4.6.

  1. If you haven't already done so, install Max 3.6.2 and/or MSP 1.7.2.
  2. Launch Max. If you are within your 30-day trial period, click Authorize. Otherwise, you'll see a dialog saying the software has expired and you'll have to either authorize or quit.
  3. You will either see a request for a key disk (if your machine has a floppy drive) or a dialog warning you that you can't authorize using a key disk because you don't have a floppy drive. In either case, click Cancel. (We no longer support key disk authorization.)
  4. Next, you'll see a Challenge code in a dialog box.
  5. We no longer have a Web Page dedicated to this version. Click Copy Challenge to copy the Challenge code to the clipboard, so you can paste it into an e-mail message along with your MSP Challenge.
  6. If you don't own MSP 1.7.2 (or earlier), skip the next paragraph.
  7. To obtain an MSP Challenge, you'll need to be in your Max 30-day demo period or have already authorized Max. Click Continue at the Max demo warning dialog to launch Max if you're within your demo period. You'll see the Max splash screen and then eventually, a dialog asking whether you'd like to authorize MSP. Click Cancel when either asked for a key disk or OK when warned about not having a floppy drive. You'll then see the MSP Challenge code.
  8. Send e-mail to challenge@cycling74.com. Include the Challenges, your serial numbers, and full name.
  9. We will e-mail you Response codes. After you receive your Response codes, you'll need to launch Max again, choose to Authorize, and enter the Response code into the space provided below the Challenge code. When you enter the Response properly, the OK button will become enabled. If you haven't entered the response properly, the OK button will stay grayed out. The most reliable way to enter the Response is to copy it from your e-mail message and paste it into the dialog box.
  10. After clicking OK, your software will be authorized.

Types of Authorization

Internet Authorization

This authorization process is only available for Max/MSP/Jitter Version 5.

After launching the Max 5 application and choosing "Internet Activation", you enter your serial number in a web browser from the computer you want to authorize. Your computer will then be instantly authorized.

If you wish to authorize another computer, you'll repeat the process from that new computer.

Products that use Internet Authorization are: Max/MSP/Jitter Version 5

Challenge/Response

The authorization system is licensed from PACE Anti-Piracy. When the Pace software runs on your computer, it finds some unique property of the hard drive you wish to authorize and uses this to generate a Challenge code. It will look something like this: MANY TINY WORD POEM LIKE THIS ONE

You submit this Challenge to us so we can generate a Response code that is a phrase of short words similar to the Challenge code. We send you the Response via e-mail within one business day in most cases. You enter the Response code into the Challenge/Response authorization dialog when the software starts up. Assuming it's entered correctly, your software will be permanently authorized on the hard drive you selected.

If you wish to authorize another computer, you'll get a different Challenge code, and you'll need a different Response code. The Response we send you only works for the hard drive identified by the Challenge you sent us.

Products that use Challenge/Response are: Max/MSP/Jitter Version 4.6 (or older), Pluggo, Hipno, Mode, Cyclops, Radial

iLok

The authorization system is licensed from PACE Anti-Piracy. Also known as a dongle, you can purchase an iLok device, and use it to authorize software. It's small and portable, so you can move it from computer to computer. This allows you to easily run authorized software on more than one computer (but not at the same time).

Products that use iLok are: Max/MSP/Jitter, Pluggo, Hipno, Mode

Authorization Code

The M authorization system uses serial numbers.

Mode 1 - 1.1 and Pluggo 1 - 3.2.2 use an in-house authorization code system. Mode and Pluggo customers should download and upgrade to the current versions that use Challenge/Response or iLok.
