Hi, I’m in the beginning stages of a project installation where when the audience enters they are given a small sculpture with an NFC chip inside (something like the NTAG213). They then tap their sculpture on a reader and that triggers sounds/video unique to their sculpture, and everyone’s contribution is composited in Max/MSP/Jitter.

I need 40 of these readers, and everything I keep coming up with recommends  enterprise-focused readers that are like $70USD each — way out of budget for 40 of them. Can anyone recommend a simpler, cheaper, preferably off-the-shelf solution? All I really need is something that can read the UID from the NTAG and report it to Max and I can take it from there.

Cycling74 added the rawbytes message to the udpsend object so now we are able to send Art-Net data with vanilla Max9 objects.

I have a high-resolution monitor (2560x1600) on my Windows 7 machine, so when I launch Max 7, the fonts, icons, etc., are uncomfortably small. I would like to make them bigger.

So... I pull up the reference, search for "default font," and find this:

OK... so I choose Preferences from the Options menu. Along the top of the resulting window, I see "Basic Patching Recent All"

If I select All, I see the following categories:

Font does not appear in this list. Other examples in the documentation show a similar list with Font as one of its elements.

So apparently a Font category is supposed to be available, but for some reason it is not appearing on my computer. Am I missing somethingn obvious here?

I am trying to jam a number into a counter object, which is being banged by a metro.  The issue is that the output of the counter is being multiplied by a *4, so when I jam a number into the counter, the output is automatically multiplied by *4 (but I just want it to take my jammed number and start counting from there).  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.  See attached printscreen. So below, I would like the final output numbers to read from left to right: 54, 17, 18, 19.

Over the past year I've been working together with several researchers at the Université de Montréal on developing SIGN/e, a set of Max for Live devices that facilitate the composition of interactive graphic scores directly in Live. I made a max for live object with a v8 object and file. 

In the creation and troubleshooting process I have made updates to that .js file.

Max seems to like one version of that file more than others because if I unfreeze my device it discards the most recent version and replaces it with an older version. 

How do I make this stop and why is it happening?

, a project we've been building at Structure Void over the past few weeks: an open-source multi-host integration of Ableton Link Audio. 

The Max side gives you two MSP externals (void.linkaudio.send~ and void.linkaudio.receive~) packaged as a complete Max package with help patchers, refpages, and a vignette tooltip.

A note on context: I'm guessing Cycling '74 will release their own Link Audio Max package alongside Live 12.4 (May 5, 2026). We wanted to do some R&D of our own on this, exploring how the API behaves across very different hosts, what an open-source multi-host pattern looks like in practice, and how the timing primitives feel when exposed at audio rate vs as messages. The two efforts will coexist nicely, I think.

The Max externals share a single C++ core (`LinkAudioManager`, ring buffer, threading model) that's also deployed across:

 vanilla 0.56-2+ / first public Pd implementation of Link Audio, to our knowledge

 / LinkAudioSend + LinkAudioReceive CHOPs

 / Send / Receive modules in the Structure Void browser category

 / ofxAbletonLinkAudio addon in its own repo

So a Max patch can subscribe to a stem published by a Pd patch on another laptop, all in tempo with VCV running on a third machine. Single-machine inter-app routing also works (replaces BlackHole / Loopback / VB-Cable).
