Live looping seems to be a rather ubiquitous performance technique these days. I am a novice with MaxMSP, so I feel like I'm probably missing some obvious solution to my problem (as is often the case with Max!) 

Can anyone suggest some reading material and/or example patchers and/or objects to explore?

 I have read mention of the xsample~ externals, so I plan on having a look at those.

I'm working on a timing system in Max / gen~ and I'm trying to build a small component that behaves like a phase-synchronous one-shot ramp.

I have a continuously running phase signal (0→1 ramp), produced by 

This phase is the master timing reference in my patch and must keep running continuously.

What I would like to generate is a retriggerable ramp that:

• starts when I send a single-sample trigger

• follows the exact timing of the existing phase signal

• outputs one or more full 0→1 cycles

trigger → phase-synchronous ramp generator with adjustable number of cycles

• the original phase signal must NOT be reset

• the ramp must stay perfectly synchronized to that phase

• the trigger is a single-sample impulse

Hi all! I’m fairly new to development with C and max-sdk, but I’m wondering if I’ve encountered a bug while trying to connect two objects with a hidden patchcord.

This is possible in the JS API with patcher.hiddenconnect(), but when I try the analog to that in max-sdk I get a console error:

Hi everyone, I'm building a kick drum synthesizer in gen~ for the Daisy Field using oopsy. The synth works fine in looping mode triggered internally by a phasor, but I cannot get an external gate input to correctly reset and retrigger the amplitude envelope.

The amp envelope is a classic exponential decay using history feedback: aeh (history) → multiply by amp_dec → add tlc (trigger impulse from phasor < 0.001) → back to aeh.

When gate1 goes high I want the amp envelope to immediately reset to 1 and decay from there. Same for the pitch envelope.

What I tried: param gate1 → change → > 0 to get a single-sample trigger on the rising edge, then "? 1" to reset aeh to 1 on trigger (aea into inlet 0, gpos into inlet 1), and selector to reset pitch env to pitch_amt on trigger. None of these work correctly — the envelope either stays open continuously or never triggers.

The core question: what is the correct way in gen~ to reset a history-based feedback envelope to a specific value on a single-sample trigger? Specifically in the context of oopsy on Daisy where gate inputs are sampled at block rate (48 samples).

Is accum + pow the right approach? Or is there a cleaner idiom for this in gen~?

Thinking about undertaking a complex application in max, involving many patches, subpatches, additional media, externals, supporting files, etc.

 it became clear that the Max Project Manager is probably not up to the task.  I can see how the Project Manager can be useful for small and medium projects that involved a handful of patches and supporting media, but it's not really a DevOps powertool.

I have some ideas, but I'm curious if others have come up with any solutions they can can share?
