There's recently been a discussion of the efficiency of multiple dac~ objects, here: 

Someone said that it doesn't matter how many dac~ objects you use, because it all gets compiled down...

Question 1: is this the same with multiple adc~s? I've dropped in an adc~ object just above wherever i need one, (e.g. above a record object) and now i'm worried that it's inefficient. Is it more efficient to have one adc~ with send~s and receive~s? Or is an adc~ object already the equivalent of a receive~ from something central behind the scenes?

Question 2: is it the same for midi inputs becoming max events? is it more efficient to have one midi'in object sending and receiving around your patch, or several midi'ins dotted around? same thinking - is each midi'in really its own midi-event-watcher, or is there some kind of a central one in max that all midi'in objects share?

NB i'm talking about send/receive here & not patch cords, because I have several patches using the same main audio and midi i/o patch, not all of which are open all the time.

hope you can help - i have a performance in a week and i need to make my (big) patch as efficient as i can!

In the screenshot, I'm using 900 for the carrier freq and 800 for the Harmonicity val with mod and amp envelopes, and the sound is  sort of a noisy percussion sound.  

I'm trying to reproduce this sound in FM8 ( or in any FM synth ) with a simple 2 operator config ( one operator modulating a carrier ) but not having any luck getting a similar sound.  I'm not sure what to use for the Carrier and Modulator ratios ( am using 1.00 for Carrier ratio and 0.88 for the Mod ratio ( 800 / 900 ) but probably don't understand  how this works. ).   I'm approximating the Mod and Amp envelopes in FM8.  

Would this be possible in FM8 ( or any other FM synth)?  Thanks for any help!

Hi, I have this simple patch. I use it on a Macbook Air 2017, macOS Monterey, temperature is actually 30 Celsius in Quebec, very humid, and the Max CPU is showing only 1%! When I run preset 3, sound sometimes cuts (around 1 second of silence). I plan to add more automation and many parameter to this synth, but I need to know how to get better result first...

Would it be more stable with a better computer?

For a standalone I use Node for Max (node.script) for creating some folders in the macOS system folder. However when I checked the file size of the app, its huge.  When I open the contents of the standalone and go to:

...the node executable alone is 192mb. Is there a way to reduce its size or is it just better to go back to using Shell which I previously used? Node.script is a very elegant and I like it a lot but its rather big. The overall file size of the standalone is about 550mb and it only uses midi.

I find the interactive help of Max great, alt+click on the object and I can get an example how to use it.

What I want to do is use external MIDI CC to control a parameter in a RNBO subpatch: frequency in the [p voice] inside the [rnbo~].

AFAIK there is only a non-normalized [set frequency] method, no normalized counterpart.

So I guess I would use [fromnormalized frequency] before it - only that does not work, nor does [fromnormalized voice/frequency] - which btw instantiate without any error message.

Am I overlooking some other way to do this, or is this a bug, or feature request candidate?

Can I really not set RNBO subpatcher params using normalized values?

I've just finished a complex video gig, with many jit.qt.movie and videoplanes, optimized as Vade proposed it with uyvy. I've tested my setup many times before the event and didn't had any bug. 

During the show (my Max patch had run for a whole day intensively with no reboot) and then Jitter stopped working properly. I had many rehearsals during the day and did'nt had any problem. But during the show, movies didn't load as they were supposed to : blue screens, digital glitches, frames freezing and skipping. A pure nightmare.

Does Jitter (or jit.qt.movie or jit.gl.videoplan) has a kind of "buffer" that gets full when used intensively? Is there a way to clear it without restarting Max?

Hello, my name is Hector and I'm currently trying to connect 6 LDR sensors together so I can map each one to different parameters within Ableton devices. I've used some helpful videos from Child of an Android and David E. Farrell to suit my needs; however, I'm running into an issue where I'm not able to get the values working correctly. I see that my values are populating in the message box however only 3 of the live.numbox are active from the unjoin. I just started learning about circuitry and max devices 2 weeks ago so I'm not overly familiar with each of these. Here is the frankenstein patch and a picture of my circuitry, any help would be appreciated, thank you!
